Washington (The Times Groupe)- US Vice President Kamala Harris yesterday led a delegation to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to express condolences on the passing of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

After leading a US delegation to the UAE to offer in-person condolences following the death of the country’s president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President Kamala Harris met with the new president of the United Arab Emirates on Monday.

She made the trip on behalf of President Joe Biden and the American people, “to offer the White House condolences to a friend and a partner, the United Arab Emirates,” and to congratulate the new UAE president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Khalifa, whose modernization policies made Bahrain a regional powerhouse, died on Friday at the age of 73.

Harris stated that she reaffirmed the US’ commitment to “security and prosperity in this region” and that she spoke of “how this relationship has benefited the American people.”

Vice President Biden was accompanied on the high-profile trip by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, CIA Director Bill Burns, and special presidential envoy for climate change John Kerry.

The Vice President expressed condolences on behalf of President Biden, the Biden-Harris Administration, and the American people during her visit with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Khalifa was a trusted partner of the United States across multiple administrations and a good friend of the United States, said the vice president.

Kamala Harris congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on his election as UAE President. During her remarks, she emphasized the US’s partnership with the UAE and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to deepening ties to advance the interests of the American and Emirati people in the months and years to come. As the Vice President noted, she is looking forward to the future of the relationship under Sheikh Mohammed’s leadership, and that our friendship and partnership will endure.
