The new international football schedule

SportThe new international football schedule

FIFA World Cup (Times Of Ocean)- Global Nations Leagues and the Club World Cups, as devised by FIFA, are the options that are gaining most momentum as we approach the impending change in the configuration of the world football calendar.

The decision will not be made in Doha in the coming days, but it is already on the agenda of all world football stakeholders. The main alternative to an every-two-year World Cup is to rethink the Nations League and elevate UEFA’s project to include all the confederations.

Qatar is almost completely focused on the World Cup draw. FIFA is still considering reforming the calendar it proposed months ago. This issue will not be on the agenda of the congress on Thursday morning, but it will be discussed by the leaders of the federations.

Among the options that are beginning to look most likely is to hold a Nations League on a global scale, in which all the confederations participate, and which could be a critical intermediate step to reaching an agreement between all the parties. Currently, it appears that this is the first choice in terms of the calendar change, which will take effect in 2024.

All stakeholders in world football are obliged to approve the new scenario that includes the potential new competition as soon as possible. The idea of a World Cup every two years has not been welcomed by all parties, and the dialogue is moving toward a more expanded version of the old Confederations Cup.

The Club World Cup project has been forgotten as a result of the pandemic, but it is still on the table. A 24 club competition was discussed at the time, but now it remains to be seen whether the competition will follow the same format as originally planned.

The first edition of this revamped Club World Cup was scheduled for China in 2021. Everything was paralyzed by the pandemic, but the idea will be revived through the negotiation framework that all parties are having.

The new schedule is expected to be approved before the end of 2022. Although nothing is definite, the current arrangement calls for a major competition every year. Following the World Cup, it would be followed by the Nations League, the European Championship and the rest of the continental tournaments, with the Club World Cup closing out the cycle.

The idea of concentrating national team matches over a month in the middle of the season seems to have been ruled out. No one has taken up the idea. No one has taken up the idea. It is likely that FIFA will reduce the number of dates reserved for international games from five to four.
