Paris (Times Of Ocean)- Police in Paris opened fire on a vehicle early Monday, killing two of its occupants.
On the Pont Neuf bridge near the famous Louvre Museum in central Paris, the car is said to have driven toward police officers on duty. When the driver refused to stop, police opened fire.
Both the driver and the passenger sitting in the front seat were killed. The passenger sitting in the back was wounded.
Along the Vert-Galant square on the Pont-Neuf, the car was parked in the wrong direction. Le Figaro reports that police aimed automatic weapons at the occupants of the vehicle to control them.
“The driver accelerated toward the police at full speed,” said the witness.
Sunday in Paris, strict security measures were in place due to the second round of the presidential election, which saw Emmanuel Macron secure a second term.
As a result of small-scale protests related to the election results, riot police were also deployed across the city.
Local reports indicate an investigation has been launched.
